Short Biography and Research Activities

Dario Fertonani was born in Mantua, Italy, on November 18, 1980, and lived in Rivarolo Mantovano, Italy, until April 2008, when he moved to Tempe, Arizona.

He received the Laurea degree in Telecommunications Engineering (summa cum laude) from the University of Parma in December 2004. For three years, since January 2005, he was a Ph.D. student at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Parma, with Prof. Giulio Colavolpe as supervisor. He received the Ph.D. degree in March 2008, defending a thesis entitled Low-Complexity Iterative Receivers.

Currently, he holds a post-doc position at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Fulton School of Engineering, Arizona State University, with Prof. Tolga M. Duman as supervisor.

His research activities have focused on digital communications at the physical layer, particularly on detection/synchronization algorithms and channel coding for wireless applications. The main topics have been:

He is coauthor of several publications on international journals and proceedings of international conferences. He was selected as a Technical Program Committee (TPC) for IWCMC 2009, and as a session chair for IEEE ISPLC 2008 and IEEE Globecom 2009. He was one of the recipients of the student travel grant for IEEE ICC 2008, and participated in research projects funded by the European Space Agency and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
