My name is Michele Franceschini, I
was born in Milan in March 15, 1977. I lived in
Cavriago (Reggio Emilia) until June 8, 2003 when I married Federica.
I studied Electronic Engeneering at
the University of Parma where, in 2002 I received the "Laurea" summa cum laude.
In 2003 I became a Ph.D. student at the University of Parma.
September 13, 2005 little Lucia came to
make my and Federica's life bright. In March 2006, I received the Ph.D.
from the university of Parma with a thesis "On LDPC Coded Modulations".
From March 2006 to March 2008 I held a research associate position at the department of
information engineering at the University of Parma. Since 2008 I'm with the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY, where in 2009 I became research staff member (RSM). Here's a link to my page at IBM
Research Interests
My research interests are in the Information
Theory, in the Channel
Coding Theory and Detection
areas, with particular emphasis on their application to nonvolatile memories. In particular, my research topics include
Fundamental limits of solid state storage
Coding for nonvolatile memories
Channel modeling and signal processing for phase change memory and Flash memory
iterative
detection/decoding of turbo
like codes and, expecially, LDPC
codes
