Armando Vannucci was born in Frosinone on november 16th, 1968. He received the Dr.Ing. degree in Electronic Engineering "cum laude" from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1993, discussing a thesis about digital analysis of vocal signal with applications to speech recognition: acoustic correlates of distinctive features of Italian stop consonants.

From 1993 to 1994 he was with INFO-COM Dept. at the University of Rome, participating in the EEC SPELL-II project and extending his graduation thesis to an interlinguistic study between Italian and British English.

From March 1995 to February 1998 he was a Ph.D. Student at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione (DII), University of Parma. He received his Ph.D. in Information Technology from the  University of Parma, discussing the thesis: sequence estimation receivers for nonlinear transmission channels  (topic: digital communications), in June 1998 at the "Politecnico di Torino". During his Ph.D. he joined a research project on digital radio links sponsored by Italtel SpA, for which he now holds two patents.

From 1998 to 1999 he was a technical staff member of the DII, in charge of the Electrical Communications Laboratory.

Since january 1999, he joined the Optical Communications group at the DII,  participating in the research projects URP/3.99 (and following) with Alcatel Corporate Research Center (Marcoussis, France), studying long-haul terrestrial WDM systems.
From june 2000 to august 2002 he has been a Contract Researcher at the DII, University of Parma. In february-march 2002 he has been a visiting scientist at the Alcatel Labs in Marcoussis, France.

Since september 2002, Armando Vannucci is a Researcher at the DII, University of Parma. His current research interests are in the field of fiber optics transmission, particularly focused on nonlinear optical propagation, WDM systems and Polarization Mode Dispersion.

Armando Vannucci is an IEEE member since 1995. He has been a reviewer for: International Journal of Communications and Networks (JCN); IEEE Photonics Technology Letters (PTL); IEEE Transactions on Communications (Tr.Comm.); IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology (JLT).

Teaching Activity
In 1992 he was a Teacher of "Mathematics and Physics" at the "Liceo Scientifico F. Severi" in Frosinone.
In 1994 he was a Tutor in undergraduate courses of "Electrical Communications" at the University of Rome "La Sapienza".
In 1997-98 and 1998-99 he was a Tutor of "Signal Theory" in undergraduate courses at the University of Parma.
In 1997-98 and 1998-99 he was also a Contract Professor of "Probability Theory and Signal Theory" at the University of Parma.
In september 1999 he has been a professor of "Signal Processing" for the International Summer School on Experimental Physics of Gravitational Waves at the University of Urbino.
Armando Vannucci is currently a Professor of "Signal Theory", for the graduation courses in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering, at the University of Parma.
Since 2004, he is also in charge of the course "Audio and Video Signal Processing", for the specialization courses in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering.
